The Heartbeat of the Mountain: Designing the Identity of Passion
National winning illustration for C.F. Monterrey (Rayados).
The Concept

Football in Monterrey isn't just a sport; it is a geographic and emotional identity. When C.F. Monterrey launched a national call to design an official shirt that represented the spirit of the club, my objective was clear: to avoid clichés and capture the visceral energy of the stands.
The design, titled "The Heartbeat of the Mountain," was selected as the national winner to be produced and distributed as official club merchandise.
The Process
Faced with the saturation of hyper-digital sports graphics, I chose to return to the raw ink and the human pulse. The illustration centers on the "M" of Monterrey, but it isn't a static logo. It is a symbol under construction, held up by the fists of the fans and the shadow of the Cerro de la Silla, our city’s iconic guardian. I used a monochrome palette in the club's classic navy blue, focusing on texture and "dirty" line work to convey the grit, sweat, and effort that happens both on the pitch and in the bleachers.
The Line as Bridge
In this project, the line serves as a bridge between a corporate brand and the people. As a Visual Journalist, my task was to translate a collective feeling into a wearable icon. The bold strokes and hand-drawn typography are the antithesis of a cold, mass-produced graphic; they represent the fallible, passionate, and loud voice of the supporter.
This project represents a milestone in my career as Un Mal Dibujante, demonstrating that the analog stroke and conceptual synthesis can transcend the editorial page and live in the streets. Being chosen as the winner from a nationwide pool of talent reinforces the power of visual narrative to unite a community under a single, powerful image.
